Location & Transportation

I love arriving in Stevenson – cruise ships dock right in the center of town close to Russell Avenue, putting you within walking distance of many local attractions. Stevenson is nestled along the serene Columbia River, making it easy to explore its natural beauty. Even though this small town has only a few lodging options, you can often relax onboard or explore nearby charming inns and B&Bs if you decide to stay overnight.

  • For those planning to fly in, the nearest major airport is Portland International Airport (PDX), about a 90-minute drive away. There are also regional airports available if you prefer a shorter drive.

Culture & Local Events

Stevenson is a place where nature and community come together. Here are a few things I’ve come to appreciate:

  • Local Lifestyle & Practical Tips:
    • The local currency is the US Dollar (USD), and credit cards are widely accepted. However, I always carry a bit of cash for small vendors or at local markets.
    • Tipping is customary in restaurants and for service providers.
  • Local Events & Festivals:
    • Depending on the season, you might catch local fairs, outdoor concerts, or community markets that celebrate the area’s connection to nature and history.
    • Check out visitor centers or local event listings for seasonal activities that highlight the best of the Columbia River Gorge lifestyle.
  • Safety & Awareness:
    • Stevenson is a friendly, safe small town, but it’s always good to stay aware of your surroundings, especially when venturing into nature. In an emergency, remember to call 911.
