Location & Transportation
Basel is wonderfully convenient for cruise passengers. Most cruise ships dock at the Dreiländereck port on the border with France and Germany. I’ve found that taking tram number 8 from Kleinhüningen is a stress-free way to reach the city center in about 40 minutes. There are plenty of hotels nearby if you wish to extend your stay.
For international travelers, the nearby Basel EuroAirport – technically in France but serving Switzerland – is just a short drive away, making connections a breeze.

- Local Practical Tips:
- Most restaurants, museums, and shops run on traditional Swiss schedules — usually opening around 9 am and closing by early evening.
- Although credit cards are widely accepted, carrying a bit of Swiss Francs (CHF) is always handy for smaller vendors or local markets.
- Festivals & Events:
- Basel Fasnacht: This vibrant carnival, usually held in spring, transforms the city with colorful parades and local music.
- Art Basel: If you happen to visit in June, the world-renowned Art Basel fair brings a burst of creative energy to the city.
